Astro Beer Hall in Shirlington Village VA is a massive venue. We were more than excited to sign on here because it came with a 100 person partial covered patio in front and an 8,000 foot basement where we could add on if business was strong. within 6 months of opening we were fast a work on a basement bar called 1969.
We started construction just after the pandemic slowed, and the supply chain for everything was slower than molasses in the winter. our airconditioning sysytem was that last big piece of the puzzle to arrive and we raced to the finish line. My partner Elliot Spaisman (right) and I were all smiles the night we opened. The first year of business has been filled with minor adjsutments and a final round of murals from our artist and designer friend Billy Colbert.
Creating an inviting atmosphere is challenging in huge room with high ceilings. We have been moving things around and playing with different ways to make Astro Beer Hall feel cozier. among other plans, we are adding dinniing booths soon. This will be a game changer upstairs. Meanwhile, our basement bar 1969 has been a hit.
