CLUB HOUSE

CLUB HOUSE

Clubhouse.... at the bottom of the second longest flight of stairs in Georgetown.
— Geoff Dawson

We opened this bar first as Church Hall, named so because it was so cavernous, cathedral like. The bar was successful but became a magnet for underage drinkers, so we changed it to “Clubhouse, a 23 and older bar.” Our lawyer told us we couldn’t enforce that, and we don’t, but just saying it solved the problem. Clubhouse is the neighborhood hangout, the place to play pool or board games, sit by the fire, or watch a game. And it is beautiful.

When we found the space, it was a concrete box with a mezzanine in back that created a cozy place for the bar. Upstairs we added a second bar and can host private parties or just be opened to the public. It is really an eye-full to behold when the place is packed.

We had fun decorating Clubhouse and added wild wallpaper to all the restrooms. The Fungi Room is seen to the left. For several seasons we ran the Weener Shack outside next to the canal, but it was a logistical nightmare and just didn’t make sense after a while. You have to keep trying to invent or re-invent yourself. Next up at Clubhouse, 6 tournament pool tables.
